Juventus is an eminent name in European soccer, but in a Champions League quartet also featuring Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Italy’s Old Lady is the least fancied. To maintain any hope of raising a third continental trophy, the Serie A titans badly needed to win the semifinal first leg Tuesday at home against Madrid.
Mission accomplished: 2-1. Carlos Tevez‘s penalty kick early in the second half shattered a 1-1 deadlock and the Italians locked down defensively while under late pressure.
Thanks to Cristano Ronaldo‘s strike, however, the Spanish side will carry an important away goal home to the Bernabeu for the second leg next Wednesday.
The other semifinal kicks off this Wednesday with Barcelona hosting Bayern Munich at Camp Nou (2:45 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1, Fox Deportes).
